Story Builder!, Google Drawings, Bloomz, Future Job Skills, ScratchMath, Black Holes, Timeline Tools, Apple TV, Funny Text, Camera Settings, Birthday Traditions

Did you know?
Story Builder - I love this tool! Creating your own characters, writing original dialogue and adding music makes it much more engaging and rewarding! Google Story Builder would be great for students to use to summarize a concept, write procedures, definitions, commercials, book trailers, etc. This is such an easy way to tweak an assignment or exit ticket, bringing a little more life into it. +Google for Education
After they Finish and name their work, they’re given a link. They can share this with you or turn it in via a Google Form or Google Classroom.

What if?
Don’t Underestimate Google Drawings - It’s a powerful, free tool at your student’s fingertips. With the layering, drawing and collaboration features it can be quite useful! This link will take you to a handful of resources for this tool, including ideas for use in the classroom and some specific uses for Math. +Google for Education +Eric Curts  I drew the image below in Google Drawings:

Something to think about…
Bloomz for Parent Communication - This is a free product for teachers to use with parents.
  • Free
  • Web and mobile tool
  • Notes from the teacher are sent to parents in a variety of ways: email, phone (iOS or Android), text or in the app
  • Translation Feature - posts made have the option to be translated to the user's/parent’s preferred language.
  • You can delete any posts you don’t want in your class feed. There’s also the option to mute individual parents or remove them completely
  • Send class updates, privately share field trip photos, reminders, schedule conferences, easy volunteer and item requests
  • Send a message to all parents or just one
  • You can schedule your posts
  • Teacher controls who gets invited to the classroom
  • Features you can turn on or off
      • Behavior Management, track the behavior of students, give awards, send reports to parents and it keeps a timeline of awards
      • Student Portfolios, allows you to add student work to the student timelines to build digital portfolios (I don’t know yet what happens to those when your students move on to the next grade), allows students to submit work for their portfolio, give parent access to the portfolios
      • Parent to Parent Communication, if this is turned OFF: it will hide the parent list from other parents, parents can only message teacher, parents can only post to the teacher
  • Supports video
  • Chat feature if you want to reach parents instantly
  • Send parents an alert in case of an emergency
  • Parents can chat with each other to organize parties, pick up from practices, play dates, etc. This feature can also be turned off.

14 fun birthday traditions you can start with your child at any age by +Cool Mom Picks  … some fun ideas to start with your children or grandchildren … or to put together as a gift to new parents at a baby shower. My favorites are the poster (could be laminated and used every year), decorating their chair and sending them a text. Now that my boys are in high school and college, I put together photos from the past year (throwing in a throwback pic)...sometimes in a collage, but I’ve been liking the Google Photos Movies lately! http://coolmompicks.com/blog/2016/08/25/fun-birthday-traditions/
